Finding the Best Gel Pen for Bullet Your Journal

When it comes to bullet journaling, pens are some of your greatest tools, after your journal of course.

A variety of pens is one of my favorite parts of bullet journaling and planning.  I’m a bit of a pen addict.

This is a good thing of course, because I have figured out what does and doesn’t work when it comes to bullet journaling.

Let’s discuss the important aspects of figuring out the best gel pens for bullet journaling.

Finding the Best Gel Pen for Bullet Journal

The type of pen you use is usually a very personal preference.

When it comes to gel pens, there are even more things to consider.

Let’s take a look.

  • Colors.  What colors are you looking for?  A good black pen is a must, but colored pens are fun too!
  • Lines. How thick do you like your lines?  You may want to have a variety of thicknesses.
  • Bleeding. Gel pens use water based ink, and can bleed.
  • Smudging.  Same goes for smudging!

The good news is the pens I’m about to show you don’t bleed or smudge, I made sure of that.  The one major thing to understand with gel ink is that even if it won’t smudge or bleed, it will run if liquid is added!

While some people like to do this for an artistic factor, if you spill a drink or put a drink on your paper, you may have trouble with your bullet journal!

Now, let’s take a look at some good gel pens for bullet journaling.

What you won't find in this list is thos boxes of hundreds of different colors. While they are usually pretty cheap, and have lots of fun colors, they also tend to have a thicker line than I like and smear quite a bit.

Do I have some? Of course, I think most of us journalers do, but I would not reccomend them for someone getting started.
