What to Name Your Pinterest Boards

When it comes to Pinterest, it seems like there can be many things to learn.  It can be overwhelming sometimes if you have just signed up for Pinterest.  Today, I want to tackle one of the most important things any new Pinner needs to consider: what to name your Pinterest boards.

What to Name Your Pinterest Boards

When it comes to naming your Pinterest boards, there are a couple of things to consider:

  • What is the purpose of your Pinterest account?
  • Is your board a board just for you, or a group board?

The Purpose of Your Pinterest Account

If your Pinterest account is a personal account just for you, you don’t really need to worry too much about what to name your Pinterest boards, as long as they make sense to you.

As a matter of fact, for my personal Pinterest account (where I mostly look for recipes, crafts, and other information), I give my boards all sorts of silly names.

For example, my personal Pinterest board for recipes is called om nom nom, and my personal Pinterest board about writing is called it shall be written.

These are both cute fun things that make sense to me.  You can’t really go wrong when naming your personal Pinterest boards.

Naming Pinterest for Business Boards

If you have a Pinterest for Business account, like I have for this website, you will probably want to be a little more descriptive with your Pinterest board names.

When it comes to naming a Pinterest board, the board name can have 100 characters, which is really quite a lot.  While you can have the full 100 characters, remember, if your board names are too long, they will be cut off when someone is looking at all of your boards at once.  I prefer to keep my board names as short and descriptive as possible.

When it comes to your Pinterest board description, you can have up to 500 characters.  The board description is your place to really shine, and focus on your Pinterest SEO.  You really cannot be too descriptive when it comes to your board description.

Here are some examples of my Pinterest for Business board names:

As you can see, the board names are pretty clear, and they do not get cut off when looking at all of my Pinterest boards.

What to Name Pinterest Group Boards

When it comes to naming Pinterest group boards, many of the tips I just gave you still apply, you want your name to be descriptive and short as possible!

However, as you can see in the image above, your board names have to be really short to not get cut off.  Sometimes this is inevitable, and it really is not that big of a deal when it comes to group boards, since many people will be going directly to your group board’s page, versus looking at all of your boards at once.

The big question is should you put Group Board in the name of your group board?

Personally, I do not think it is necessary, since group boards have a different icon, and when you go to the board page you can see there are multiple members.

However, this does not mean that putting Group Board in the title is wrong!  It is totally up to you.  If you are going to pick a group board name like Blogging, you may want to add the phrase group board and your brand to make the purpose of the board clearer.

For example, you may want to name a blogging group board TechStarZone Blogging Group Board instead of just Blogging.

Descriptions are especially important for group boards, since it tells proqspeecive members what your board is about.  You can also include instructions for joining the group board, rules, and if you are accepting new members in the group board description.

Naming Your Pinterest Boards

What to name your Pinterest boards doesn’t have to be confusing or overwhelming.  Just follow these simple tips to get started heading in the right direction.  Remember, if you decide to change it later, you can simply edit the name of your Pinterest board at any time.
